William Dumbreck was born in Linlithgow on the 8th August 1750. He married firstly to Janet Dickson on the 23rd July 1773 in Linlithgow and had a daughter, Helen Dumbreck born 6th December 1774.

Janet Dickson died shortly after the birth of their daughter.

Helen Dumbreck born 1774 married Robert Gillon in 1793 at Linlithgow and we have been able to trace the death of a descendant, Ellen Dumbreck Gillon, who was born in Limerick, Ireland on the 21st December 1869 and who died at Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand on the 12th August 1950.  Ellen married on the 15th December 1892 to James Harris in New Zealand and information from her death certificate showed that she had living issue, 3 males and 1 female. No further details are known about the Harris family.

William Dumbreck then married Mary Riven at Linlithgow in 1775 and they had 4 children.
