William Dumbreck M.D. was born in Edinburgh on the 9th October 1800. He married Anne Bassanville on the 6th November 1827. Two of their four children Margaret and William were both born in Edinburgh. William senior qualified at Edinburgh in 1822 and was also Burgess of Edinburgh. He was later examiner to the Royal College of Surgeons.

Research has shown that William must have been keen on Curling, as a painting by Lees of the Grand Match of 1846/47 on Linlithgow Loch shows him present.

William's Uncle  -  Thomas Dumbreck (Collector of Excise) was living with William at the time of Thomas's death in 1859 at 49 Albany Street Edinburgh.  Thomas is buried at at Warriston Cemetery Edinburgh and certified by John Croal and Son, Undertakers.

William Dumbreck died on the 2nd January 1875 at 49 Albany Street Edinburgh.
